Professor Hu Yijuan graduated from Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences with a bachelor's degree and a doctor's degree, and returned to China as a former professor at Emory University. In July 2024, Hu Yijuan joined the Beijing International Mathematics Research Center of Peking University. Her research focuses on the intersection of statistics, microbiology and genetics, and is devoted to solving practical biomedical data analysis problems.
In recent years, scientists have realized that the human microbiome can be regarded as the "second genome". As a statistician, Hu Yijuan found that the data of microbiology is more complicated than the data of human genome, and there is no corresponding statistical method. In addition, the microbiome is more adjustable and can be directly applied to disease intervention. These characteristics aroused her strong interest in microbiology and prompted her to devote herself to the emerging field of studying microbiology data by topological methods.
