Prof Sophia Günther studies LSTM for more than 20 years which is a neural network architecture, later became the dominant technology for various natural language processing tasks in research and commercial applications in the 2010s. Although its dominant position was later replaced by Transformer with more powerful functions, it still played an important role in AI technology.
In addition to this major contribution, she has achieved remarkable acceleration of convolutional neural network (CNN) on GPU, which is 60 times faster than the equivalent implementation on CPU.
