In 2012, Phd Liu Yi graduated from the Department of Mathematics at University of California, Berkeley and went to California Institute of Technology for postdoctoral research. His first published paper was about the four-dimensional problem of torsion homeomorphism of tire tread.
In the past two decades, L2- Alexander Torsion has been paid great attention to in the field of three-dimensional manifold research. Around 2015, Liu Yi published "Degree of L2-Alexander Torsion for 3-manifolds" in Inventions Mathematica E, which contributed to the research in this field.
The research on the finite rigidity of three-dimensional manifold group projection is one of the important issues that Pro Liu Yi is continuing to think deeply. The research has basically confirmed the "finiteness" at present, and now he is trying to realize the leap from "finiteness" to "uniqueness".
Prof Liu Yi won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award 2023.
